So I carved this flag as a fund raiser for the South Carolina Burned Children’s Fund. Never really though about it being the largest. Well after taking it on it’s “world tour” doing the fund raising raffle, I kept getting asked if they were any bigger wooden flags. I did a little research and found a company that did wooden flags that size, but not carved. Had my younger google experts search for me and they say it’s the largest carved flag they could find. So until someone claims one bigger, it’s “The largest, Carved, Wooden American Flag in the World”!!!
This flag consists of 39 12foot 2x6s, laminated into 13 beams, bolted together, then chainsaw carved. And after hours and hours of carving, grinding, and sanding, it was wood burned, stained, and coated in multiple coats of amber hue marine varnish. Added some industrial duty hangers on the back for hanging , and here it is!!! Oh, and painted on the Burned Children’s fund logo on the back for added finesse!
Raised a little over $5K for the burn fund and now it resides at Calabash Point Place, an event venue in Calabash, NC. If you’re ever out that way, stop and and take a look. It’s much more amazing in person!!!!
